The Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT are about to be joined by an all-electric AMG model. The Affalterbach outfit is working on a direct rival to the duo, and a prototype has been spied on the roads around the Nurburgring.

Mercedes presented us with our first glimpse of its upcoming EV back in early 2022, unveiling the glamorous Vision AMG Concept. The design of the production model will be a little different and while this blacked-out prototype is all covered up with camo, we can see it does have a similar overall shape to that concept. This means it could be just as low-slung and sexy as the Porsche and Audi twins.

Many of the smaller and more intricate parts of the design have been shielded from view, including the front grille and headlights. Nevertheless, we can see it has features like flush door handles on shapely doors with obvious creases. A set of big brakes are also visible at the front and rear. Sadly, we can’t see much more of the EV’s styling.

Underpinning the new model will be the AMG Electric Architecture (AMG.EA), developed in-house by AMG. It’ll pack some serious punch, too. Mercedes is expected to use lightweight electric motors from Yasa and a high-density battery pack sourced from Sila Nanotechnologies in the US. It’s expected that the new electric powertrain could pack as much as 1,000 hp, giving it a big advantage over the AMG GT 4-Door 63 S 4Matic+ E Performance and bringing it roughly in line with flagship versions of the 2025 Taycan and 2025 e-tron GT.
