- Spy photographers have caught a mysterious Toyota GR Corolla undergoing testing in Europe.
- It has a camouflaged bumper, but it appears virtually identical to the one found on the 2025MY.
- While nothing is official, Toyota could be working on a facelift or a new special edition.
The Toyota GR Corolla recently received an eight-speed automatic transmission and an upgraded engine, but it appears even more updates are on the horizon. While details are limited, spy photographers recently snapped a prototype with a camouflaged front bumper.

While that’s interesting by itself, the bumper is virtually identical to the one found on the current model. The only noticeable change appears to be a lack of sensors, so it’s not entirely clear what Toyota is working on. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the company is planning a facelift or a new special edition.

That’s just a guess, but the current Corolla dates back to 2018 while the GR variant was introduced in 2022. This means both models are getting old, despite efforts to keep them fresh.

Unfortunately, the prototype doesn’t tell us much other than Toyota is working on something new. The minimal disguise suggests this could be a relatively minor update, but this is likely an early prototype so we probably shouldn’t read too much into things.
Regardless, the 2025 GR Corolla features a new front bumper that improves cooling and aerodynamics. Toyota also added launch control, new interior finishes, and a revised suspension that has rebound springs as well as updated rear coils and stabilizers.
More notably, the turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine has been upgraded to produce 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. That’s an increase of 22 lb-ft (30 Nm).
